Welcome to the Gateway project Homepage
---------------------------------------

The Gateway is an initiative by the Vermont Department of Taxes to
develop http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html[Free] /
http://www.opensource.org/[Open Source] tax software.
A link:sstp.html[Streamlined Sales Tax] implementation
has already been developed and has been used in production by the Vermont Department of Taxes since early 2007.
A link:mef.html[Modernized eFile]
client and submission viewer are currently under active development by the
the Vermont Department of Taxes and the Oklahoma Tax Commission.

Project News
------------

*March 20, 2009* -- the second release of the 'Gateway MeF Client Configuration'
program has been pushed out to the http://sf.net/[Source Forge] mirrors. The
application is a small utility written in Java for creating and editing
Gateway MeF Client configuration files. This release adds support for encrypted
configuration files and removes support for unencrypted configuration files.
